Rude Awakening | [Voice]

[[In the forest in the eastern outskirts of town, Sokka wakes up with a minor freakout. He certainly had not gone to bed wearing these clothes (honestly, who in the four nations even wore white?), not to mention that the clothes he had been wearing are right next to him. There is a major pain in his back that no amount of stretching would make go away. And lastly, when he reaches up to pull Boomerang out, it isn't there.

Somewhere in the back of his head, he certainly feels wings where his club and boomerang should have been instead, but the loss of Boomerang is definitely the most pressing detail of this awkward awakening for at least a full minute.

Thus begins a very frantic search of the surrounding area to find said boomerang, but all he finds of note is a rather peculiar book lying beneath his folded clothing. He reaches down to examine the book and as he opened it to the front, starts pressing a few buttons almost randomly.]]

[Voice]

[[There are a few seconds of pause as he investigates it, before the wings dawn upon him.]]

Wait... wings? Oh, ha ha, Aang! Okay, okay, I'm sorry for being jealous and making fun of you and Katara for flying around together on your little air glider thingy going swooooooooosh swooooooooooosh. Now will you please get over here and take these wi--

[[Sokka looks up and sees a bird perched in a tree overhead.]]

Oh you are so lucky that I don't have Boomerang with me, flying meat. Otherwise, you would be breakfast.

[[The sound of some bird can be heard over the journal.]]

Huh, it can talk. [[suddenly screaming]] IT CAN TALK! THE DEMON BIRD CAN TALK! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh--

[[The entry ends abruptly as Sokka accidentally hits the Post button as he closes the book and runs.]]

Well....

[[Sokka is clearly trying to find a witty reply, but he's clearly out of his element (sarcasm-bending, hah!).]]

Wait, so Momo talks to you? He never talked to me! I always knew there was something up between us.

[[Wait, Zuko knows where Boomerang is? Sokka feels a little less jealous now.]]

The weapons shop, you say? That in the village too?

[He's just going to ignore the Momo thing.]

Yeah.

Where are you?

From the looks of things, I'd say at the entrance of the village. Next to the river. Oh, and there's a big hill behind me with pink flowers.

[Okay, he knows where that is.]

Stay right there, I'll come find you.

[[Knowing that Zuko is coming, Sokka has set out on a mission to figure out what's going on, and it seems by all accounts that everyone is waiting upon Team Avatar specifically to do that dirty work. So in the meantime, he's looks around and fiddles with the curious little book (and watching out for the birds, who may or may not be conniving balls of meat) until Zuko gets there.]]

[Eventually Sokka will see the familiar sight of a giant sky bison. Zuko sitting atop Appa's head as the huge creature descends once they've spotted their friend on the ground.

The bison bellows and Zuko hops off.]

[[He couldn't have walked?]]

Appa!

[[Said sky bison is extremely familiar. Sokka puts his journal away -- or at least tucks it under his arm -- and runs off to where Appa is lands nearby. Sokka is happy to actually see someone familiar, though it's clear that this place isn't familiar. Also, the questions, he has so. many. QUESTIONS..]]

Zuko, it's good to see you! Will you tell me about these wings? Or why someone undressed me and redressed me out in the woods? Or why Boomerang is missing? Or what this place is? Or where my sister is?

[Zuko is as calm and serious as ever. Though there is a small smile that indicates that he is happy to see Sokka regardless. The questions were to be expected. He had plenty of them when he first arrived too. So he is willing to answer anything that he can. But first thing's first.]

You're in a place called Luceti. Its not even our own world. We were brought here and these wings keep us alive.

[Though Zuko's own are actually concealed under his clothes.]

[Appa also gives Sokka a big sloppy bison lick when he gets close enough.]

[[Well that was very succinct. But still, he's glad to see Zuko despite his seriousness. Then again, all in all, the full reality of what this place is hasn't even come to him, and for what it's worth, Sokka technically saw Zuko not all that long ago, so it's hardly like Sokka's been missing him. Not to mention Appa; Sokka's quite happy to get a lick, and Sokka returns the affection with a hug.]]

Oh it's so good to see you too, Appa. C'mere, you big guy, yes...

Uh, Zuko, have you been hitting the cactus juice, Zuko? Because that sounds absolutely crazy. [[Pause.]] Wait, you have wings too? Everyone has wings?

[[He looks around a little bit. This place seems normal enough. It almost feels normal enough. But there are just too many things that are weirder than even Sokka here.]]

Why can't we all just go back home where things make sense?

[[It's not really a suggestion, just a lament. Zuko will probably answer it anyway, haha.]]

[Zuko folds his arms, giving Sokka a look at the cactus juice remark. He wasn't there to see you act like an idiot that time, thankfully.]

I know, I thought so too. And yeah, everyone does.

[He then sighs.]

No, we can't. We're being held here by the Malnosso.

[[You have to forgive him, Zuko; how many times has Sokka forgotten that Toph is blind now?

Sokka looks up at Appa with definitely a lot on his mind. Everything is a lot to absorb all at once, and Sokka's sense of realism has started to crash hard on him.]]

Yeah, I figured that'd be the case. Otherwise I think most people would've been eager to head home, wouldn't they? Not that I actually know where home is at the moment...

But hey, the village at least seems mostly nice, if strange. The people for the most part, too.

It's nice, until you get kidnapped by the Malnosso, or they do experiments.

[That's not bitterness in his voice, nope. Zuko's had a pretty rough time since he came.]

Oh. Well that does put a small damper on the warm welcome.

[[Well, that would explain an awful lot, up to and including Aang's own comments about how weird this place was. Really, what has he gotten himself into? And how? All he did was go to bed!

But there's no time for dwelling on the past now; you have to take things as they are.]]

Look, a wise man once told me, "You can't quit because you're afraid you might fail." I don't know what sort of prison this is just yet, but I'll come up with something for us. I've got your back now.

[[Sokka puts a hand on Zuko's shoulder in an effort to cheer him up in one of those rare moments of Sokka's serious side. Lap this up while it lasts.]]

So, uh, where's everyone staying? I've heard there are a number of us here.

[A part of him wants to snap. To insist that there's no way out. Others have tried and failed, but he doesn't. Despite his goofiness, Zuko respects Sokka and him having their back is not something he will argue.]

It's good to have you, buddy.

The house is on the other side of the village.

[Thus why he used Appa. It would have taken a lot longer to walk.

It's then that a thought strikes him. So this question will probably seem really random.]

What's the last thing you remember before waking up here?

[[Sokka smiles, happy to see Zuko at least have a little bit of positivity.... Then again, Sokka doesn't know how bad things really are here. Not yet, at least.]]

The last thing I remember? [[He holds his hand up to his chin and strokes it meaningfully. That is a weird question, wouldn't he know of it too?]] Well, we had finally found your mom after Azula tried to burn her hut to the ground. She went all looney and dashed off into Forgetful Valley. Ursa got her face back from the weird spirit monster, and you went off to talk with her for a while.

Oh yeah, and then we were going to head off back to the Fire Nation capital to meet up with Iroh again.

[Zuko is stunned by his answer, and it shows on his face.]

That's exactly what I remember. We're from the same time.

[And thank goodness for that. Of their group everyone else had come from the past, other than the ones from the distant future of course, up till now.]

[[Sokka smiles at that. At least something is slightly normal around here, at least... for what would pass as normal.]]

Aang had mentioned that time is funny here in this world. And I think I'm beginning to figure out just how weird it is. He told me I'd already been here... which might suspiciously explain why so many people were rushing to great me the moment I got here.

[[He pauses for a moment as one more thing comes to mind. Well, multiple things, really.]]

So... about Katara...

Yeah, I've been here too, but I don't remember any of it.

[He's been here several times actually. It's more than a little weird.

Zuko then pauses at the question.]

What about her?

[[Sokka might be rejoicing at that moment knowing that he isn't completely crazy for not remembering his so-called previous visit to Luceti. However, any joy that might yield is weighed down by a much heavier concern, and Zuko's answer isn't helping Sokka's sense of foreboding.

The only question was... what was the right question to ask? Aang was so so vague. He rubs his chin for a moment before finding the words.]]

Aang told me that she's not around. [[He then adds, quite matter-of-factly:]] He also told me you'd explain everything. Did something happen to her? Is she okay?

Where's Katara?

[[He says that last bit in the same tone as when he asked Azula where Suki was during the eclipse.]]

He said WHAT?

[Zuko slaps his forehead with one hand and then drags it down his face.

Seriously Aang?! You couldn't tell Sokka what happened to your girlfriend yourself?! You must be the worst future brother-in-law in the history of forever!

The Airbender will probably get a dirty look later.]

[Zuko quickly composes himself again and sighs.]

The Malnosso have kidnapped her.

[[Sokka's chin drops the moment he hears that. To be fair, he wasn't certain that that wasn't something he wasn't expecting. But certainly, this clashes with the news from someone else that Katara was, in fact, here. Yes, it was a difference sense of "here," but Sokka is only the grammarist when he's working out a good pun.]]

WHAT?

Okay, that's it. We gotta go after her. [[He starts marching along the path leading away from the village.]] Let's go.

[[After a few paces, he reaches to his back slightly aimlessly. He stops, turns around and starts heading towards the city.]]

Boomerang, first.

[And Zuko reaches out to grab the back of Sokka's shirt.]

You can't.

Nobody knows where they take people when they're kidnapped.

[[Sokka at first struggles against Zuko, arms flailing as he tries to make any headway. After a few seconds of not making any progress, he relents and slumps a little bit.]]

She's got to be someplace though. It's just a matter of where. [[As if Sokka even knew which way he was going just a few seconds prior.]] I can't just sit around if she's in danger; she's my sister!
